Revlon Selects Expressionist "Vincent Van Gold"

I just filed my nails down to nothing in preparation for boxing day madness. I work high end retail so we are anticipating a crazy day tomorrow! My nails were getting to that length where I would be too afraid of breaking one off and making them sore while rushing around in the craziness tomorrow. My nails grow super fast so I filed them down to little stubs and decided to paint them with one of the new colours I received in the Revlon package.

In the bottle this colour is super stunning. The purple shines blue or purple depending on the light and it looks great on the nail as well! The bottle is super awkward to hold and will take me more than a few times of using to get used to how heavy it is. I did a super terrible messy job painting the base colour because it was just so hard to control while holding the heavy top part. The first coat went on well and seemed to dry quite well but I ran into problems after the second coat. I painted my nails around 4pm and when I went to get a plate out for supper around 6 I ended up smudging the polish off my thumb! That's two hours of dry time and it still wasn't dry enough for me to grab a plate to eat! For me this is a deal breaker since who has 2+ hours to sit around while they wait for a coat of polish to dry? I have many Revlon polishes and they all seem to go on well and dry well. I have no idea what they did with this formula but they really need to change it. Even now over 3 hours later and I am still noticing it smudging and getting imprints when I do anything. I don't do thick coats of polish so it's not that I have it on too thick at all. It could actually use another coat but that won't be happening because the drying time is similar to waiting for actual paint to dry!

The nail art brush is nice, but as I am still design challenged. No brush will ever help me achieve cute nail art like some bloggers manage to achieve. This is clearly evident in my failed Christmas box and ribbon I tried to do on my accent nails...I may just use the gold as a nail polish and do an accent nail in gold since it is a stunning colour. I just don't have the patience to draw designs on my nails and have it turn out nice.

Overall, I really don't see myself purchasing this in the future mainly because of the drying time. If Revlon could fix up the formula to make it something that doesn't take hours I would maybe be a bit more interested. I found these duos in neon colours at Marshall's on clearance for $3 when I was doing Christmas shopping. I would really be interested in trying those ones, but I fear the formula is going to be the same. I'm glad I waited and tried the ones from the package first because I never expected a drying time like this with a Revlon nail polish.

Revlon Selects!

Awhile back I was chosen to be a part of the Revlon Selects program that is new to Revlon. I received the box a few weeks ago but it was during the midst of my stressful exam week so I really haven't had a chance to use the products yet since I went straight from exams to working seasonally and that has left me no days off so far because of how busy the holidays are for retail.
For now I will leave you a teaser of what the package contained and I will post later and review each product individually once I have had a chance to try them out.

This small package awaited me one night as I was coming home from writing an exam.

Upon opening the box I was greeted by this:

The first thing I found was this nail polish duo called Moon Candy in the shade combo Orbit. It was hard to find the products in all that wrapping! I didn't want to make a huge mess so it was like a treasure hunt trying to locate and pull out everything in the package while leaving the paper pile undisturbed. This is a pretty purple colour with a flaky top coat.

The next thing I pulled out was the eye shadow and I am so excited to try this one out! I love the colours and how they sparkle. This is the photoready eyeshadow palette in Metropolitan. It's definitely a very me shade and I can't wait to find some occasion to wear it! I'm thinking for New Year.

Next I pulled out the lipstick and nearly died! I am so in love with this colour! Ultimate suede lipstick in Backstage. It's a very pretty deep red/burgundy colour that is completely in line with what I normally wear. I am very excited to try this one out!

Finally I found the last of the products hidden. The nail polish duo is the nail art expressionist in Vincent Van Gold. I LOVE the name of the polish and I am fairly nail art challenged to say the least, so I plan on trying this one out tonight to do a manicure to get me through boxing day since my Christmas one has long since chipped. They also included a cute glittery nail file. I'm not sure I'm in love with the file because I find the glitter does shed a bit and I really don't want to clean up a glitter mess after filing my nails. It may be best to use for a quick touch up and not to actually file all your nails down with.

Here is a group shot of everything that was in the package together. I'm very pleased that this program sent the colours they did. I think they tried to keep the colours to something that would go well with every skin tone. I was worried that without filling out a profile of any kind that I would be sent products that were completely out of the range of shades that I would ever use, so I was pleasantly surprised when these showed up. I know some posters on Facebook have said they disliked the lip colour but I am very happy they included this shade! I do get that it's hard to please everyone, but I feel like Revlon really tried to put together products that would work for almost everyone.

Christmas Wishlist

Tis the season to start dreaming of all the things I wish I would receive for Christmas! My family is pretty practical and they don't share the same tastes in designer things that I do, so I know the majority of my wish list they would die if they knew the actual cost of some of the items. Most of the time they don't see these splurge items as practical but I can always dream! Anyway I wish to dream of all the things I would treat myself too if I won the lottery before Christmas!

Raindrops Grand Opening Event

I was lucky enough to be invited to the grand opening of the new Raindrops store in the concourse level of the Holt Renfrew Centre on Bloor St. I was in love with the poncho on the mannequin, and they had some beautiful frilly umbrellas that were not so practical but very cute!

At the end of the night (or whenever you were leaving, whichever came first), they were handing out cute little media gift bags! Mine contained a pretty purple striped super compact umbrella. This will come in handy since mine literally had the metal parts snapped in the wind a few weeks back and I had yet to replace it!

Sindulge - Another beauty box site?

"Get ready for the latest beauty secrets from celebrity makeup artists, stylists, bloggers and personalized consultations."

Came across this on another blog and had to sign up immediately! I have no idea what the site is going to offer, but it mentions if you refer people you get $$ credits so it kind of sounds like it's either going to be another beauty box type of site, or something where you are able to shop online. Either way I'm in!

If you're curious and want to sign up too, do so at the link below:

Always Infinity Pads Review

I received these to test as part of the Chick Advisor program.

I have been an Always brand user for awhile but I normally use the ultra thin slender pads that are supposed to be great for teens. I'm not a teen but I don't have much of a flow so they work really well and aren't overly bulky. I find that these pads for me were only useful at night when I slept because the back was wider so that I wouldn't leak out onto my sheets if I slept on my back. I found the wideness of them a bit uncomfortable to wear all day, as well as them being too long front and back to wear during the day and still feel comfortable. I felt like people could see my pad at the front and back through my shorts because of how long they were. I would definitely like to see a smaller version (maybe another great for teens type) for me to even consider purchasing them.

I also find the scent of these products a little odd. I'm not quite sure what it is but there is something about them that sort of smells like a floor cleaner to me. I also thing I may be allergic to whatever is used to make them scented since I normally don't have problems with other Always products and these made me itchy. I would really like a non scented option or else I don't think I would be able to purchase them again. The itching sensation was definitely noticeable while only wearing these pads and I felt like I had to re-arrange myself or scratch the itch when I had them on.

I love the packaging of the Infinite products and wish that Always would consider changing all of their products to a box format. It makes it much easier to store and open and close without having a ripped open bag sitting around. The coupons inside are a great bonus as well because I find feminine products seriously over priced. I mean come on manufacturers make it a bit cheaper for us ladies since these are practically necessity items!

Always Radiant Liners

I received this product to review from Chick Advisor.

These liners are designed to fit any type of underwear from boy shorts to thongs. This is a huge plus for some people, but for myself on the other hand this isn't a selling factor as I tend to always wear the same style of underwear and I don't need to adjust the liner size for the type of underwear that I tend to wear. This definitely makes them more versatile than other liners on the market currently.

These liners are super thin and definitely feel like you aren't wearing anything at all. This is important for me because I tend to always wear a liner daily unless I am wearing pads during that time of the month. At first I was concerned because they were so thin, especially around the outer edges where you can wrap them around as wings. I was surprised with how well they absorbed even though they are extremely thin. They stay in place really well and don't shift or crinkle up like some liners. When it's time to remove them they come off without leaving glue residue on your underwear like I find some liners do (I'm looking at you individually wrapped Always liners).

The package is a bright and colourful box that is very easy to open and close without having a ripped open bag of liners sitting around. The package contains 64 liners that are not individually packaged. A bit harder to carry them in your purse if you need them, but I think it's worth the compromise. They cost a little more than the liners I use regularly, but I would definitely buy them and stock up if they go on sale. I have read that they are cheaper if you purchase them at Walmart so I will have to check into that next time I go and see how they are priced compared to what I currently use and maybe stock up before I move to an area without a Walmart!

John Frieda Precision Foam Hair Colour

I received a coupon for a free box of this hair colour from their Facebook promotions they were having a few months back. I can't remember how long ago it was exactly since it seems like it took forever to arrive in the mail. When checking out the various shades online it seemed like they had a great selection with 24 different colours to choose from. The reality though is that all the stores I went to maybe had 12 different shades on display. Only two of those being reds. I was a bit disappointed in this as I only had the option of doing Light Red Brown (too orange looking on the box), or Deep Cherry Brown (looked kind of purple on the box).  I hunted everywhere looking for Dark Red Brown but no stores around me carried it, so the other night I went and picked up the Deep Cherry Brown and hoped for the best. I knew if I went with the lighter colour it would end up turning orange on my hair since I have a lot of natural reddish orange tones in my hair to begin, and colour doesn't stay too well in my hair so I went with the darker shade in hopes that when it fades out it will be the perfect colour and I won't need to deal with bright orange hair until I decide to do it again.

The box comes with a pair of gloves (that are very hard to get on), a squeeze bottle, a bottle of the colour to mix in with the squeeze bottle, and a very generous sized conditioner that will definitely last awhile since you are only supposed to do it once a week to seal in colour and keep it from fading. I may do the conditioner a couple of times a week since my hair doesn't really absorb colour as well and usually washes out in about a week. I will see if this makes a difference in how long the colour actually lasts.

Now the application was a bit weird and tricky. I'm not sure how much I like the foam. I mean sure it doesn't drip or anything, but the foam makes it hard to see if you actually have all of your hair coated. It's also very hard to try and do yourself since you have to squeeze the bottle for foam every time. It would be much easier if it actually pumped out like soap. I ended up with hair dye all over the bottle and table because you had to actually pick the bottle up and squeeze it, then set it down to coat your hair with the foam and repeat until the bottle was empty. I wasn't quite sure how to manage doing a strand test with this dye so I just applied and hoped for the best! I have shoulder length hair and there was way more than enough product to cover my hair. I actually probably could have done it twice with the one box but it was already mixed up so there was no way I could unfortunately. If you have long hair I definitely think one box will be more than enough to do your hair. The foam definitely doesn't foam as much as it shows in the instructions. It's about half as foamy which had me worried at first that it wasn't white and really foamy when I finished but it still worked all the same I think.

On my hair I don't find the colour very true to the box. The box makes the colour look purplish while on my hair it's a nice cherry red. I normally have a very hard time getting hair colour to keep in my hair so I will have to see how this colour washes and wears after awhile. For the price I would hope it lasts longer than a week or two. I purchased mine at Shopper's Drug Mart and it was $14.99, though it is cheaper at around $12.99 at Walmart.

Claritin Rapid Dissolve Tabs Review

I received the Claritin Rapid Dissolve Tabs to test out as part of Bzz Agent.

I wanted to wait until I had finished the entire box of 10 tablets that was provided to test before writing the review. These tabs were designed to be an "on the go" type of tablet. They dissolve on your tongue much like those Listerine strips that came out years ago that were popular but seem to have disappeared pretty much (at least from my area). No water is needed which is supposed to make them great to take anytime. The only drawback on this claim is that on the package it tells you to take them on an empty stomach which pretty much takes away the "on the go" portability of them since you are pretty much forced to take them in the morning when you first wake up, or late at night before you go to bed if you aren't a late night snacker.

The claims are that it provides fast, effective relieve from:
  • Itchy, Watery Eyes
  • Runny Nose
  • Sneezing
  • Itchy Nose and Throat

Now for myself  after taking the full 10 days worth, I honestly couldn't tell any difference in my allergies when I took the medication versus days I forgot to take it or just didn't take it. I feel like the medication in this form is less effective compared to other allergy medications. Now I'm not a normal Claritin user, I take the generic version of Reactine which is a different type of allergy medication. So it might just be that this medication isn't effective for my body. I didn't notice any relief from any of my severe allergy symptoms. My worst allergy symptoms have always been itchy, runny eyes (I'm also a contact wearer so this really irritates me in the spring when things are blooming), and I sneeze like crazy during the entire allergy season. My lesser symptoms are the runny nose and scratchy throat. Those I can live with, but without effective allergy medications I cannot live with the eye problems and the sneezing that comes with having severe allergies. During the trial I didn't have any relief from my major symptoms so I definitely feel like this won't be a product for me. I'm not sure if it's the formula, or the type of medication, but I get much more relief from my normal medication and can't wait to start taking it tonight.

I'm not sure what the price of these go for as I have been unable to locate them on store shelves in my area so far, but I am guessing they will be priced around the same as other Claritin products. If they are way more they would not be worth it in my opinion because there is no added convenience to this product and I'm not sure if it's even as effective as the "old fashioned" take with water tablets.

OPI Colour So Hot It Berns

This is by far my most favourite nail polish colour of all time. I only have a mini bottle currently but need to track down a full size one asap! It's from the 2010 Fall Swiss Collection so I'm not sure how hard it will be to find a full size bottle at this point. It's the perfect red. This is two coats with a top coat.

Pantene Pro-V Aqua Light Conditioning Shake Spray

I received this product as part of a set of three products to review from Chick Advisor.

I was wearing of the leave in conditioner aspect of this product, and I am not normally a hair product type. The scent of this product is the same as the shampoo and conditioner which is great, though I'm not sure how well the scent will pair with other shampoos. I am sure to run out of the shampoo and conditioner before the spray.

I have been using this product before straightening my hair so far. I love that this product doesn't leave my hair feeling crispy like I put product in my hair. That is the main reason I don't use hair products because I hate the way they make my hair feel. I find it leaves my hair looking a bit smoother when I straighten it. I have wavy/curly hair naturally, and since cutting it shorter my hair is definitely more curly which makes this product almost a must to keep the frizz to a minimum.

I would definitely recommend this product as long as you hold it back far and don't spray directly onto the scalp or roots it won't make your hair greasy. I'm not sure how it will pair with the scents from other shampoos so that will be something to take into consideration if you are purchasing it to use with other products because the scent from this product will linger through the day.

Pantene Pro-V Aqua Light Conditioner

I received this product as part of a set of three products to review from Chick Advisor.

As with the shampoo I was kind of worried about these being a part of the Pantene brand just because I find Pantene products don't work well on my oily hair.

The conditioner has the same scent as the shampoo and spray. It's not overpowering but definitely a scent that stays so you can smell it during the day.

With the conditioner in this line I definitely need to remind myself when I'm in the shower to use very little of it! This can be both a good thing, and a bad thing. Good because you use less product so you can justify the hefty price tag since it will last much longer. On the other hand it's a bad thing, because I find with the conditioner it's too moisturizing for my hair. Just before receiving the products to test I had my hair cut shoulder length and I find the conditioner leaves the ends of my hair looking a little bit stringy if I use too much.

I definitely think this product would work out best for someone who has dry or damaged hair. It just doesn't work out very well paired with my oily hair. I need conditioning but this is just a bit too moisturizing for my hair type.

Pantene Pro-V Aqua Light Shampoo

I received this product as part of a set of three products to review from Chick Advisor.

At first I was sort of weary about testing out products with the Pantene brand because from past experience the Pantene formula didn't pair well with my super oily thick hair. My hair would look greasy again in a few hours time after washing it and I never liked the general feel of my hair after using the brand. I think the Aqua Light product has made me change my mind on hating the brand completely.

The formula with this shampoo just feels better compared to other shampoos from the brand. It has a nice scent that isn't too overpowering, but yet it lingers just enough to make me feel like my hair is still freshly washed. It holds up well when compared to the other brands of shampoo I use, though I could do without the extra hydration it provides because my hair does not need it! I do find this shampoo to be nice and light weight and it rinses out of my hair well.

I feel like price wise it isn't the best deal out there, but for someone who maybe has thin or dry hair they could definitely benefit from trying the product out, since I feel like the formula of this shampoo is made for those hair types.

Julep Maven June Box

The swatches for the June Maven boxes are out! Here are the boxes this month: http://blog.julep.com/june-maven-swatches

I have chosen to skip the month because I loathe pink and I feel like I already have the same shades of the other polishes but in different brands. I also have a ton of untried polish from the last few months of maven boxes that I really feel I should get through and wear before thinking about more maven boxes.
I also have to admit that being an adult sucks and I feel like I need to be focusing more on necessity expenses when I already have a huge collection of polish sitting unused. Growing up is great until you realize that money is the root of all evil!!

Dove Original Beauty Bar

I received this product a couple of weeks ago to test from Chick Advisor and have been using it since. Now at first I was very weary of trying it because it is moisturizing and I have VERY oily skin. Even though this is the original bar it has a very strong scent! The whole bathroom smells like this Dove bar! I don't mind the smell though so it's fine, but if you are a sensitive scent person it probably won't be for you. Based on the scent factor, I would probably never ever attempt to use this bar on my face no matter what because my skin is picky especially my face. I didn't want to risk a huge break out after my skin has been clear so long.

The soap left my skin soft and smooth and I haven't noticed my skin breaking out at all which was one of my biggest concerns when I first received it. My skin is very sensitive and picky about what products I can use and because of that I rarely ever stray too far from my tea tree oil soap that I usually buy. I'm not sure the Dove bar would be something I would buy normally just because it is much more pricey compared to the tea tree oil soap I buy for $1.99, but if the Dove bars ever went on sale for a good enough price I might stock up.

Overall I was pretty impressed with the Dove bar. It exceeded my expectations and I feel like I can add another product to the small list of things my body will tolerate without breaking out.

Julep Maven May Box!

I received my Julep box for May today! I wish I wasn't in the middle of exams or I would be trying out the magnetic polish right now.
The colours are from top to bottom: Nessa (bright lemon sorbet), Ashley (sunset orange with metallic micro shimmer), and  Kylie (sultry violet MAGNETIC polish). Yes the purple is magnetic!! I'm most excited for that one but I forever fail at doing fancy things with my nails so we will see if it actually works for me. There is also a sample of pedi creme which went straight to my mom since she needs pedi stuff badly.

Now the only issue with this months box is that the brush in the polish Ashley is terrible! It's all flared out and frayed. There is no way I can even use this colour until I have a replacement brush which is unfortunate. A lot of people are having this problem and Julep is sending out replacement brushes to anyone that emails them. Since I'm in Canada though I probably won't be able to test the orange out for a few weeks.

Julep has brought back the ONE CENT promo! You can try out a Maven box for a PENNY! Go here http://julep.com/?r=15549118  and fill out your profile. When you are ready to check out use code SHAREONMAY and it should bring the price from $19.99 to $0.01!!

Virgin Mobile Members Free Lip Balm from The Body Shop!

Take advantage of this awesome offer until the 29th of April. This deal is open to Virgin Mobile members only. All you have to do is fill out the info asked on this form: http://www.virginmobile.ca/en/members-lounge/offer-body-shop.html?itcid=BD:120 and print out the coupon that appears. Take that into your closest The Body Shop store and present the coupon with your cell phone (I didn't have to show them my phone but the coupon states you have to show them your Virgin Mobile phone to get the freebie). They will let you choose one of 6 new 'Born Lippy' lip balms.

I picked mine up on Sunday and ended up getting the plum one. They only had 5 choices left in stock when I was there. They were out of the Lychee shimmer which was the one I kind of wanted. However, the plum lip balm smells amazing! I spent a bit of time in the store trying to decide which kind to get though and I was torn between the pomegranate and plum. My sister was the one that decided for me. I haven't tried it yet as I have a ton of other lip balms in my makeup collection that need to be used up first, but I am pretty positive I am going to love this one.

If you aren't a Virgin Mobile member but still want to try the lip balm they sell for $6 at The Body Shop. Ours was hidden a bit over with all the body lotions and things. I expected it to be in the makeup section so I had to show them the coupon and ask about it or I would have never found it.

*Guest Post* Six Household Locations To Find Inexpensive Beauty And Spa Ingredients

Everyone knows that using highly rated beauty products comes at a price. It's easy to break your budget when beauty and skin care are a top priority, but you need not spend excessively to obtain radiantly healthy and enviously beautiful skin and hair. All you need is the right recipe, the required ingredients, and a little time to prepare home beauty formulas. Not only will your pocketbook benefit, but so will your body and soul as you discover a lavishly natural beauty routine, hand-made from items you already have at home.

Facial cleansers, body scrubs, shampoos, conditioners, eye serums and moisturizers can all be created from common household items. Where are the best places around your home to find these ingredients? Here are six suggestions of where to look for beauty basics in your home and some ideas to use the premium ingredients you may find there!

1) Your Garden

The best place to find ingredients to create homemade beauty and spa products is, naturally, your garden. Vegetables, flowers and herbs can all be used as ingredients for beauty preparations, or individually for healthy, beauty enhancing procedures. Herbs can be used for aromatherapy, in the spa, or as a household freshener to please the senses.

Melons and cucumbers can be used to cool puffy eyes and diminish dark circles. Herbs and fruits make wonderfully scented products, such as masques and cleansers. Many items from the garden have special qualities like toning, astringent and moisturizing. The best thing about using your garden as a beauty pallette, is that all the ingredients are natural and fresh.

2) Your Refrigerator and Pantry

Of course, not all food items can be grown in your garden. This is especially true of deeply moisturizing items. Avocado, mayonnaise and eggs are just a few examples of common moisturizing ingredients that you can find in your refrigerator. Yogurt is another food ingredient that is used mostly in facial masques, and known for its softening and astringent properties. Items that have first been cooled in the fridge are often more refreshing for beauty purposes.

Apple cider vinegar is a natural astringent and analgesic, while honey is often an ingredient that adds cohesion to facial preparations. Honey and other sugars are good for clarifying the complexion and hair removal. Grains like oatmeal have moisturizing properties and are ideal for scrubs to exfoliate the skin. Citrus juices make wonderful natural toners and bleaches for fading scars or other skin flaws.

3) Your Vitamin and Supplement Stash

As we all know, beauty manifests from the inside out. This refers to attitude, as well as superficial characteristics. Both can be enhanced by items found in your vitamin and supplement collection. Many dietary supplements can be used topically, as well as taken orally to enhance beauty. These include Vitamin E and brewer's yeast. Concentrated forms of herbs, extracts, vitamins and minerals can make your beauty formulations stronger and more effective.

4) Your Coffee and Tea Stash

Many tea varieties contain large amounts of herbs, which can be substituted for fresh herbs, although dried plant materials must be used in larger quantities to achieve desired effects. Both tea and coffee have revitalizing, scenting, exfoliating and astringent properties.

5) Your Utility Room or Cleaning Closet

Mild soaps, like Castile, can be used for the base of many cleansing beauty products. Cheesecloth is good for brewing herbal tonics or straining products for greater concentration or separation.

6) Your Medicine Cabinet

Witch hazel, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, mineral oil and boric acid are examples of commonly kept medicine cabinet items that may be used alone, or in conjunction with other household ingredients in beauty products. Pre-made moisturizers or tonics can also benefit from natural enhancement with readily available household ingredients.

Julep Maven April Box!

It's that time of the month again and this month is mostly spring-y pastels. This month was kind of disappointing for me because I really dislike all things pink polish related, and it seemed like every box had some shade of pink. I also don't care for the 'extras' they throw in the other boxes like the pedi cream so I was forced to stick with my regular It Girl box. It has TWO pinks in it and a pastel blue. For those that are in the program and know what the gold box is, I am so very glad they didn't choose me for the golden box with the whole collection because there were so many pinks I would have had to find a pink lover to gift them all to. I guess I really can't complain since this month was free from referrals again, but I feel like I am falling out of love with the program. Maybe I just have too many untried polish or too many colours that it's hard to get excited when a new box comes out.

Anyway onto exciting stuff. This months box came with 5 chocolate easter eggs (already consumed), toe separators that feel very flimsy and cheap (but the orange colour is cute), but they are something I don't have and would never purchase for myself so they are a welcome bonus even if I only get a few uses out of them before they fall apart.

Now on to the colours. My box contained these three (from left to right): Penelope (described as an opaque, almost white cream with a hint of blush), Jessica (described as soft and sweet baby blue creme), and Niecy (described as a bright pink creme for sunny days).

I haven't swatched any of them yet, but I plan to tonight and will see which if any I actually like. I think the blue will be okay, I'm not sure about the bright pink but I will at least try it. My least favourite is the lightest pink just because it's kind of more of a manicure colour and I rarely ever do light colours. If I do my nails I go for bright and bold or dark and vampy. It might be something to keep on hand for job interviews though, or castings when I can't wear coloured nail polish. I don't see myself getting a ton of use out of it though.

I will return later with swatches!

Too Faced Girls Dig Pearls 'Pink' Dupe!!!

This is probably my all time favourite lip gloss ever so I was very sad when I found out it was discontinued! I do have this tube but the lid is cracked in a million places (you can see one of the cracks in the second picture), so I am also very very sad about that because it means I can't throw it in my purse and take it with me when I want to use it. I had been searching for a replacement but am weary of buying makeup products on ebay or amazon. I have so far been dreading running out of this gloss! I have found it online but I know it's only a matter of time until I can't even find it online anymore.

I was in Sephora last week to pick up my birthday gift and really didn't need to shop for more makeup since I have enough to make some makeup artists jealous of my stash. I of course HAD to check out the sale section just to see what kind of deals there were (I can totally justify purchasing more if it's on sale). I was kind of shocked when I saw a ton of these in the clearance section.

(Left: Too Faced Girls Dig Pearls Gloss in Pink, Right: Sephora Gloss in Vivid Violet)

They are very very very close in colour! Even I was surprised at how close they were when I compared them side by side. I still have the wrapper on the Sephora one so it doesn't look as glittery in the photo as it does in real life. I bought the Sephora gloss on sale for $3. I'm depressed that I didn't pick up more backups now at that price! I will make sure to check next time I go and see if they have anymore left so I can snatch them up.

Sephora Birthday Gift for 2012

I got to pick up my Sephora gift last week and I have to say I really like what I see even though I haven't tried it yet. They are both scented, though I can't quite put my finger on the exact scent of them but man do they smell good! Kind of like tropical skittles maybe? Just the smell alone is enough for me to say they are fantastic! There are two mini tubes in the box, one is tinted 'Rose' (perfect for me!) and the other is just a sheer treatment. The tubes are very cool because instead of just snapping on like a lipstick they twist a bit. Great to throw in your bag and not have to worry about a lid coming off and they are the perfect trial size for small purses which I am more into carrying now and can't have a full makeup bag. To purchase these full size I believe they are either $22 or $23 at Sephora. I am very happy that they have provided mini versions as the free birthday gift so I can try them out (free of course) before spending so much on the full size product.

Julep Maven March Box

It's that time of month again! My March Julep Maven box arrived last week but I was away until yesterday so I got to open it finally last night!
I'm so happy the box is here because I have had to have naked nails for auditions all week so I'm very excited to be able to paint my nails with one of these colours! They also threw in a nail file which will come in handy even though I own a million already! At least I won't ever have to buy nail files again if I keep managing to get them free or nearly free (gotta love sales).

The colours are from top to bottom: Charlotte (purple creme), Jodie (rose with gold shimmer), and Melissa (sheer blue/white pearl colour).

Melissa does not look that spectacular in the bottle but over a deep dark colour it looks so amazing! I was playing around with it and I am in love with this colour.

If you still haven't signed up after all these posts I have about the program you can do so at the link below. Just fill out the survey and find out which box is best for you! There is always the option to skip the month or cancel if you find out later that the program isn't for you. There is also a referral program which allows you to earn free months when you refer two friends and they stay members for 30 days. I have so far received the monthly boxes free! Which is an awesome deal and it makes me love the program even more as I am more than likely a member for life (well until my nail polish stash starts to take over anyway).

Julep Marisa and Oscar

After receiving my Golden Julep Maven box last week I had a hard time choosing what colour(s) to try first! I ended up doing Julep Marisa (a very pretty dark blue that I am in love with), with Julep Oscar (gold glitter bomb) accent nail. I'm still wearing this a week later and it's still going strong! A bit of tip wear but that's always normal for me. The glitter polish is amazing. That is two coats and it completely covers my nail! Removal might be a pain but that's why I did an accent nail first.

Julep Maven Sign Up for Only $1

Julep Maven is having another $1 promotion!
Fill out the quiz here: http://julep.com/?r=15549118
Then once you have your profile and are at the check out enter code: SHAREONFEB
Your box will change from $19.99 to only $1.

It's a great way to try out a monthly subscription box if you have been curious. They also allow you the flexibility to skip months and cancel if you decide the program isn't for you or you just don't have the funds to subscribe every month. They have amazing customer service (though sometimes slow) but they always make it right. I had a missing order from Jan that somehow never was shipped and they placed a new order really fast! They didn't even ask for the invoice or dates the order was placed (which I was prepared to have to give them).
There are more perks as well if you are a member. You get a discount on nail polish purchases in the online store. Plus they will give you a free monthly box for every 2 people you refer to the maven program as long as they join and remain a member for 30 days!
This box far exceeds my expectations, and is the only monthly box I would ever even consider subscribing to after testing out some other monthly box programs out there that just didn't seem worth the money for the products you receive. Also everything you get in these boxes are FULL SIZE! No small samples that you could request at Sephora, but actual full sized products. Each box is usually worth around $60 when you add it all up which is a great deal.

Julep Maven February Box!

I got my Julep Maven February box in the mail today! It was FREE because I had enough referrals to get this months free. Wait until you see what showed up!!
I was so shocked and surprised when I saw this:

Man is this thing ever heavy for only having a few polish in it...hmm...Now after tearing into the wrapping and from seeing previous photos on Facebook I knew that a black box meant you got a regular box, while red meant you won a golden box!!!
For those that don't know, Julep was giving out 100 "Golden" boxes this month to random Mavens that were getting a box. I happened to be one of those lucky 100!

Look at all those goodies wrapped up in there! This box is seriously packed full of amazing things! At this point I am so anxious to tear into everything.

First up: Julep Top Coat for hair! Now I'm not too excited about this one, but it was an extra bonus item in some of the boxes. If I didn't win this box I would have never chosen a box with hair stuff in it because I'm not a hair person outside of washing and letting it air dry. I don't spend time on my hair so I don't own a ton of hair products. I might try this out before I straighten my hair since it's a "top coat" maybe it will protect my hair from heat damage.

Next up was a cuticle oil and some dark chocolate shaped like an oscar! Totally cute. I had a few bites of the chocolate and gave the rest away. I'm not a dark chocolate fan :( I hate bitter chocolate. If I'm eating junk food it better be sweet and creamy!! The cuticle oil intrigues me, but I have no idea if I will use it or gift it to my mom or sister. They both have really dry hands and cuticles all the time. My skin is naturally oily and I never have a need for hand creams/oils.

Now I started to unwrap the best part of this box...THE POLISH!

Group shot of all the pretty polish together.
